A mother is the best person to understand the needs of her baby. She has endured the baby for 9 months and naturally would be in a better position to know why her baby cries and how to pacify her.
Motherhood is something almost all women desire. Those who do not have a child feel that they are missing out on something. Many couples adopt a child so that they can spend their precious moments bringing up the child.
It is not all that easy to bring up a child. One has to understand what the child needs and ensure that that the child is well taken care of. Both mother and father have to share equally the responsibility of bringing up the child, but definitely since the mother spends more time with the baby, she has to ensure that the baby is not neglected in any way.
How does a mother know her child needs her?
Often we hear a baby cry and we do not know why she or he cries. One tries very hard to pacify the child and often does not succeed. The moment the mother picks up the child in her arms, the baby stops crying and is very happy. Why so?
- A mother is sensitive to the child’s needs. She can sense why her baby is crying ? and how to stop him or her from crying?
- The mother is the closest to the child. She after all breasts feeds her and the child feels secure in her arms.
- Since the child has remained in her womb for about 9 months, the child is biologically and emotionally attached to the mother. He or she feels the mother is a familiar person.
- The soft and melodious voice of a mother can put the baby to sleep. A woman has a lilting voice that is easy on the child’s ear.
- The child communicates with the mother in a language that only the mother can understand. A child smiles back at her mother after a feed, and tells the mother how happy he or she is. The communication that goes on between a mother and child is indeed unique. An outsider cannot interpret it.
- A mother has much concern for her baby’s welfare. The pain that she has undergone in giving birth to the child reminds her that her baby is of utmost importance.
- A man may break off a marriage more easily than a woman as the latter feels more for the children. In the East, a woman often accepts the adulterous nature of her husband and does not seek a divorce as she feels that her children need both the parents. Of course, socially it is difficult for a woman who has left her husband, but nevertheless, the breaking of marital ties is not that easily done.
Motherhood is bliss indeed. A baby needs the constant attention of her mother. In case the mother is not there, then the baby will cry loud enough for her to hear in order to ensure that she takes some time from the daily chores and give the required attention.
It is not all that easy to give constant attention to the baby. A mother is patient enough to cater to the whims and fancies of her child. She is also there when the baby needs her. In case a baby is neglected and not given much attention, he or she will lack physical and mental growth.
International institutions such as UNICEF focus on motherhood and make sure that a mother is well informed about how to take care of the nutritional as well as psychological needs of her child.
